On this episode of The Casey Lewis Podcast I answer 2 new questions from the internet, share a story about an NFL player that is crushing it with money and there’s a new joke of the week.
Casey – “I started a construction company last month. It was literally $100 start up, I got 100 bucks for my birthday and bought the materials for the first job. So far it has been very successful.
My question is, I am struggling with finding a good accountant. I would obviously like the best I can afford, but I really am not sure how to judge them. I have asked some friends for references, but I have gotten very different answers, from people who do their own accounting and taxes to others who use large firms.
I am looking for someone I can touch base with two or three times a month, and then instruct me on best practices as we do the bookkeeping, and to make sure I don’t do anything stupid with filing for taxes. But I have also heard that good accountants always pay for themselves come tax time. The business is an LLC, filed as an S corp. We have not purchased it yet, but plan to do our bookkeeping with QuickBooks online.
Should I look for someone local? Or is this something I can do with someone online?”
Sarah – “I’m curious if it makes sense for me to get rid of my car. It’s a 06 Rav4 w/ 135k miles and worth about $8,500. My payoff is $5k and the car payment is $180/month. I make $39,000/year and have about $70k in total debt between the car, student loans, and $14k in credit cards. After essentials are paid I only have about $50 extra to pay on my debts each month.
I have family 7 hours away so I need something reliable enough to make that trip. Should I sell the car?”
Do you have a story where you are crushing it with money?
